The Lust List: Burgundy with Madewell Mosaic

This year is the year of casual for me. I’m living in athleisure most days as I work out of a coffee shop and want to fit in a workout when I can. When I’m not rockin’ Lululemon, I want my clothes to be functional and to fit well. Luckily, I no longer work downtown so I haven’t worn a pencil skirt or black sheath dress in a year. It’s glorious.

Unfortunately, I’ve found many mall brands (lookin’ at you, J.Crew) to be increasingly poor in quality and impractical in function. Despite the fact J.Crew and Madewell are cousins, I’m on team Madewell. he clothes are, quite literally, made well. Plus, the store has great sales.

My late fall uniform is my favorite pair of skinny jeans and comfy, heeled booties with a rotation of cute tops and scarves. Side note: why is it so difficult to find cute tops to go with jeans? Will we women ever have enough cute tops in our closet?

On my latest brunch, I went to Mosaic, the mixed-used property in Virginia that boasts great restaurants, amazing shopping, a movie theatre and cool restaurants. True Food Kitchen and Mom & Pop are personal favorites—why I visit Mosaic.  Oh, and a Target. Every so often, I plan a day at Mosaic—for the brunch, the shopping, and the Target.

We started our day with a workout at solidcore and then perused the farmers market, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday. The stores weren’t yet open, so I window shopped in preparation of their opening.

After brunch at Brine, which was delicious, we did retail damage at: Anthropologie, South Moon Under, Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio,  Lululemon, and, of course, Madewell, which opened recently at Mosaic. I left with several winter tops, cute sweaters, and scarves—hoping I’d finally have enough!

Burgundy is the shade de rigeur this season—the shade is perfect for fall and winter, it’s almost universally flattering on skintones.

I paired my new burgundy sweater and scarf with my go-to denim and booties, clutch, and jewelry. No joke, I have five GiGi NewYork clutches in various shades and colors. They’re affordable, packable, and durable. Grabbing a color coordinated clutch is easy to make an outfit looked pulled together and stylish.

Shop our favorite picks for burgundy sweaters and plaid scarves to style with ease this winter.
