I’ve been having an internal debate with myself since October – do I turn over my closet from summer to winter wear, or not? I started the process a few weeks ago and then immediately pumped the brakes when I saw 75 degrees in the forecast.
Regardless of weather, reaching for plaid, buffalo plaid to be specific, is kind of a knee jerk reaction around this time of year. The weather in D.C. has finally started to dip, and so we’re finding ourselves in this classic fall staple that pairs with, well, pretty much everything!
When I saw this BB Dakota buffalo plaid jacket at a boutique during a trip to NYC, I knew it would be a great layering piece to transition from summer to fall.
The beauty of this jacket is that it can be worn in a variety of ways. The draped front can be buttoned at the shoulder for more of a cape effect, or you can cinch it at the waist, by tying the two suede buckles at the hip. My favorite way to wear it though, is loose and open which allows you to dress it up with a cute dress and boots, or dress it down with jeans, a t-shirt, and heels.
Other items I’ve found myself constantly reaching for this season are my Kate Spade reversible earrings (similar), or as I like to call them my “business in the front, party in the back” studs, and this leather bow and gold plate belt. Like buffalo plaid, they pretty much go with everything.
Here are some of our favorite buffalo plaid finds for the season!
