April showers bring May flowers so we’re ready for a barrage of pastels and florals as we jump headfirst into spring. We’re currently loving the activewear-inspired apparel that is everywhere from the runways to retailers and can get girls-on-the-go from the barre to brunch.
Luxe sweatpants, mesh fabric, bright tennies, and structured dresses in pastel tones are everything this month. Here are our Bitch-approved April essentials in fashion, accessories, and beauty that are comfy, casual, and chic.
We can’t wait to ditch our winter parkas in exchange for lighter spring layers. With lingering chilly temperatures from this winter’s Polar Vortex, Bitch in the City Ally can’t wait to slip into Anthropologie’s Jacquard Bomber Jacket for the spring. Ally also has her eye on this cozy, versatile wrap from Zella that is sporty without sacrificing a fashionable look. Cori Sue loves a great white knit all year long, but has been craving bright white, perforated knit sweaters to wear with skirts, shorts, pants and denim of all styles and prints like this Lucie cropped version.
When it comes to tops, we can’t get enough of soft, fitted tanks and crops. Making the transition from active to going out is easy with this floral work out tank from Lululemon. Social Bitch Amanda Jean plans to pair the top with a jacket and will be set for a comfortable day sipping mimosas. This monochromatic, athletic inspired crop top will pair well with the matching skirt, as well as with other options.
On the bottom, the Bitches are trading our dark jeans for pastel varieties. Thanks to a springtime shopping stroll in Soho, Bitch in the City Emily did some damage in AG Denim and added these pale blue skinnies to her denim collection. Check out the entire pastel collection if you, too, are inspired by the changing season! In the District, Baby Bitch Deidre plans on strutting herself across town in this perfect pair of pale pink jeans by Karen Miller.
It’s hard to fathom that sweatpants can be chic, but Bitch in the City Ally envisions these high-end bottoms from Rag & Bone would pair perfectly with strappy, spring heels at a patio brunch. If you’re anything like Social Bitch Amanda Jean, you’d prefer your work out ensembles to come pre-arranged just like the Fabletics Portico outfit. Perfectly chic for brunch after an intense sweat session.
Dolce Vita is one of the Bitches go-to brands for affordable, high-quality fashion that’s always fresh and unique. Cori Sue has a few rompers, and will be incorporating this stylish number into her spring rotation. Social Bitch AJ knows that this fitted jumpsuit is the perfect piece to dress up or down and give a sporty twist.
One purchase Cori Sue is definitely making this spring is a stunning floral circle skirt in a pastel print. This pick from BB. Dakota is affordable and darling and you can’t beat Kate Spade’s seasonal lemon print. This peach fit-and-flair frock from BB. Dakota looks like a simple pale pink frock at first, until you notice the unique, feather-like chiffon textures. It’s fun for spring and summer, but we bet you could still rock it with tights come winter.
All of the Bitches are banning our suede booties to the back of our closets this April. Leggy Becca is a big fan of heels, especially in her favorite color, a soft pastel lemon. It just adds a little sunshine to her stride. She’s currently lusting over this Jimmy Choo set.
Every girl needs a great nude sandal for spring and this patent pair from Topshop at Nordstrom bring to mind an old-fashioned athletic shoe– velcro and all–without being too sporty to pair with classic sundresses.
When it comes to tennies, Bitch in the City Emily opts for a classic pair of Vans, which are a great, durable city sneak to navigate the streets of NYC and the bright pop of color will give her an extra pep in her step. Another great pair of sneaks, this faux-leather slip on variety is great for girls on the go. Ally isn’t worrying about scuffing up the white exterior since this pair from Forever 21 costs less than $27!
Emily can’t live without her collection of breathable, non-slip Swiftly workout headbands from Lululemon in a variety of beautiful pastels, keeping her flyaways tame and her runs stylish. On the other hand, AJ loves this boho head wrap in a bright spring hue to stand out among the crowd.
Baby Bitch Deidre loves to throw on these colorful aviators if for nothing else than the adorable tortoiseshell detailing!
Frolicking through the streets of DC, Deidre travels light with this adorable mini pink satchel. Emily has her eye on the larger version by the Cambridge Satchel Company sold at J.Crew, with room for her smaller spring essentials and a pastel purple color to complement the lighter colors of her warm weather wardrobe.
For jewels, we’re all thinking big, bold, and shiny. This pastel gemstone statement necklace from Capwell & Co is glamorous without being girly, a feat given that the main colors are peach, pink, and beige. The neutral palate makes the necklace a surprisingly great pairing for a variety of ensembles. Becca also loves the Bib Bloom at Bauble Bar as an inexpensive way to embrace spring.
Beyond our apparel and accessories, cheeky pastels will also adorn our fingers and toes this season.
Mint Candy Apple, one of Essie’s cult classic shades, is right on trend with this spring’s colorful pastels. Say goodbye to your somber maroon variations and instead, decorate your nails with this soft cherry blossom pink to match your surrounding blooms, also by Essie.
With so many spring-inspired hues to choose from for her mani-pedis, Deidre loves this blue shade by Deborah Lippmann which adds just the perfect amount of fun to her outfits.
