Spring 2019: The Best Cocktails We Tried at Brunch

A wise woman once said, “brunch without cocktails is simply breakfast.” The wise woman was me, after cocktails at brunch.

Cocktails are what elevate brunch to be the celebratory, relaxing meal that it is, and we’ve ranked the best beverages we’ve tried at brunch this spring.

#5 The Bloody Mary at Bernie’s with a “Lil Buddy” beer

Individually, the Bloody Mary and the “Lil Buddy” beer would each be ordinary drink orders. But the fact that they are served together made this combination fun and unexpected! The little lager is an optional add on that seems to be the restaurant’s answer to the extra shot of vodka that is sometimes served on the side. Read our review here.

#4 The Aperol spritz at Somerset

As we’re swinging into summer, the Aperol spritz is the cocktail of the season! And there’s nowhere better to sip one than Somerset. Why? Well, the patio scene is beautiful – like an escape to the Hamptons – and the drink is flavorful and served in an enormous wine glass. It’s the perfect light, refreshing, and tasty take on this summer beverage. Read our review here.

No Bones Beach Club Brunch

#3 The Piña Colada at No Bones Beach Club

While No Bones Beach Club does have traditional brunch libations, they also offer fun tiki cocktails. The piña colada has coconut milk, pineapple, and coconut rum with a dark rum float. It was refreshing and went down too fast. Plus it’s vegan! Read our brunch review here.

#2 The habanero margarita at The Gage

The Bloody Mary was great, but the margarita is the cocktail we will be coming back for! We’ve been known to seek out spicy margaritas, and this is among the best we’ve tried. It is super spicy – but if you can handle it, we highly recommend this drink. It was served in a beautiful glass with spicy salt pouring down the side. Read our review here.

#1 The Firebird at Machine: Engineered Dining & Drink

Our associate food editor, Kirsten, ordered this picturesque drink, which comes in a whimsical, bird-shaped flute. She described it as, “a masterful blend of rose vodka, strawberry purée, and lemon agave nectar.” If you’re a fan of sweet drinks, you’ll be as happy as a lark with this cocktail.
