It’s no secret that we love any excuse to dress up—and we’re very excited to be hosting a ‘Stately Affair’ brunch this Sunday at Second State, Washington’s newest farm-to-table restaurant downtown. Second State pairs high-quality, local American fare with top-notch cocktails centered around a whiskey theme. The restaurant, which opened last month, just began serving brunch, and we’ll be hostessing the formal kick-off.
We checked out the new brunch menu last weekend, and we weren’t disappointed. The menu is very similar to its sister restaurant, Copperwood Tavern, which remains the only reason we will schlep to Shirlington. Your meal begins with popcorn and Prohibition-era cocktails, then continues on to French toast sticks before moving to entrees. For the entrees, there are Eggs Bennys galore (salmon, crab, short rib, or traditional), steak and eggs, duck hash, and other gourmet pub grub.
This Sunday, the brunch is, indeed, a Stately Affair, as those dressed in their Sunday best will receive complimentary glasses of Veuve Clicquot champagne and Dad’s Hat whiskey. For brunch at Second State, we are opting for a comfortable-yet-chic ensemble that matches with the restaurant’s upscale yet relaxed vibe. We are loving this burgundy midi dress with a classic grey overcoat from Burberry, and a touch of leopard. It’s perfect for a lady who likes a good whiskey.
