Side of Style DC: Alphonse

We were absolutely taken by the old-fashioned Italian dinner vibe at Alphonse, the Italian market that recently opened on U Street. With its red checkered table clothes and cozy booths, Alphonse is perfect for a brunch date. But you can also meet friends at the bar, morning, noon, or night as Frank Sinatra plays over the stereo.

While the style at Alphonse is retro, we’d keep our attire modern and casual—as it is a U Street diner, after all. Inspired by the checkered Italian vibe, we’d wear plaid-on-plaid, with a buffalo check button down and a grey-and-white plaid Rag & Bone scarf. We’d pair this topper with leather leggings, our favorite pair of black flats, and a leather backpack by Marc by Marc Jacobs.

As you cozy up into that booth next to your fave Bitches or your boo, be sure to order the seasonal, fresh veggies for appetizers, a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth pizza pie, and conclude with dessert. Read our full brunch review here.
