I love a good cocktail party—the larger the more intimate, I always say. (Or was that from the Great Gatsby?)
What makes a summer soiree fun? A great venue with an outdoor space. Great, live music. Great cocktails. Fun, interesting people. A cool theme—ideally with fun decor, props and a photobooth for good measure.
What takes away from the fun of a great party? When you have to plan it. You have to worry about who is doing check, if there’s enough food, if there’s enough alcohol, if people are having fun, if someone fell in the pool—a million little details.
Last week, UrbanDaddy hosted a Summer Soiree in DC, as part of a series of events hosted in partnership with Grey Goose in major cities across the United States. UrbanDaddy asked me to act as hostess of the event—and all I had to do was show up. (Of course, I couldn’t even manage to do that on time.)
And you know what? It was spectacular. Hosted at the Hotel Monaco, the Poste patio was tented, strung with lights, and decorated with topiaries and a giant board of chess. It was a romantic, vintage set up with a 1920s vibe. The bartenders were dressed in stripes tees reminiscent of Venetian Gondoliers. The vintage three-piece jazz band wore newsboy caps and suspenders. The whole thing was utterly charming.
Grey Goose served up six cocktails from its Simply Served program, which were light, refreshing, and garnished with fresh herbs. Exactly what you’d want on a 95 degree evening. And, you know what? No hangovers.
