Recap: Fashion for Paws 2011

As you know, I’m a big fan of the puppies. And the fashion. As such, Fashion for Paws, a runway show that benefits the Washington Humane Society, is my favorite event of the season. This year alone, the event—planned by the lovely and gracious Tara de Nicholas—raised more than $520,000 for Wash Humane, making my marathon fundraiser look like peanuts!

The enormous event, which is quite the production with dozens of volunteers, took place at the stunning and spacious National Building Museum. Hundreds upon hundreds of Washingtonians step out in style for this great cause, enjoying an open bar and appetizers, Georgetown cupcakes and more. There is an amazing silent auction. There are puppies on-hand for adoption.

And, of course, there’s the runway show. While, admittedly, it is a bit comical to see people try to gracefully walk down the runway with an excitable and star-struck (and probably blinded by the cameras) pooch at their side, this is Washington, not New York, so we try not to take our fashion too seriously, right? Plus, we’re looking at the puppies anyway.

Like last year, the event was emceed by Pamela Sorensen of Pamela’s Punch with some help from others, including Tommy McFly of Fresh 94.7

Without further ado, here are some of our favorite pics (most of them taken by our talented pal Moshe and the others are by Rich Kessler). Be warned, cute men and puppies to follow …

For more photos and stories on the event, visit MetroMix, Washington Life, Oh My Goff,  K Street Kate, Georgetown Dish, and the video at 94.7 Fresh.FM.

Next year, Daisy Mae and I plan to rock the runway, so watch out.
