Recap: Donut Fest Chicago

The third annual Donut Fest took place again this weekend in Wicker Park at Chop Shop. Although the Chicago Bitches had brunch plans, we knew without a doubt that we had to visit this celebration make a stop at the city’s celebration of the best fried dough goodness that we love so much. The event featured some of the city’s best donut staples, including Stan’s Donuts & Coffee, Firecakes, Longman & Eagle, Somethin’ Sweet, Glazed and Infused, Gurnee Donuts, Bombobar, Doughnut Vault, and several others. This celebration of doughnuts was sweet—pun intended.

Chop Shop transformed its back space into a doughnut lovers’ dream, with 365 degree views of doughnuts and doughnut lovers all around. Participants indulged in all different doughnuts, many even purchasing doughnuts to take home as well.

Tickets sold out for the event, which featured 18 different doughnut creators all in one place. Upon entry, festival goers received goodie bags with tickets good for a doughnut from each stand, as well as coffee tickets for coffee or tea from the many local java joints and David’s Tea. All proceeds from the event went to Un86’d, a charity which provides monetary support to restaurant workers in need. Gurnee Donuts took home the top prize.

Donut Fest is a fun event that should continue its annual celebration. Heck, we’d go more than once a year! It gathers a great, enthusiastic crowd, and showcases the delicious doughnuts that this city has to offer.
