I walk by Marché Maman every single weekday morning on the way to work and am persistently captivated by the adorable storefront and signature blue and white coffee cups. Recently, I noticed an expansion to the original quaint coffee shop and was thrilled when I found out this meant Maman would be serving brunch at their Centre Street location. Although this was Maman’s original spot, they’ve since opened outposts across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Toronto.

The namesake translates to mother in French and was inspired by the owners’ memories with their own mothers in the kitchen. As the website states, “Maman brings to life childhood favorites, both savory and sweet, from the South of France and North America. The dishes focus on the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients and highlights twists on classic French techniques. The menu changes every day to ensure an inspiring, ever-evolving menu.”

Even better news, is that Maman’s brunch offerings are served every single day. Us Bitches are always in need of our weekday fix or a speedy power lunch. Marché Maman is the perfect place to gather as it is quiet in the back restaurant and feels homey with the curated market in the front of the space.

Once we walked in, I realized this probably wasn’t the place to bring your boyfriend but he sucked it up surrounded by girly decor. We started with a couple of hot lattes and the pastry assortment for two. Tim told me this was probably the best latte he’s ever had, which is saying a lot because we drink them every single morning. We both loved that the croissant pastry was soft and buttery, and the almond pastry was divine.

As for entrees, Tim knew he wanted to order whatever included waffle-iron hashbrowns as these sounded intriguing. Although not exactly what we were expecting, the greens-based bowl was so beautiful and colorful. Sectioned off in true buddha bowl fashion was smoked salmon, sliced avocado, pickled eggs, cucumber, and dill. All of these fresh, delicious ingredients were topped with the star of the show: the waffle-iron hashbrowns. I was surprised how much Tim enjoyed the dish given its healthier than normal nature, but he loved the combo of hot and cold ingredients and the freshness of the veggies.

I couldn’t decide what I wanted because literally everything sounded so good. Eventually I landed on the Mediterranean Breakfast Plate after talking through about three dishes with our patient waitress. A gorgeous spread arrived in front of me at the table complete with toast, feta, tomatoes, egg, olives, and hummus. I wished I could eat a breakfast like this every morning. Hummus is one of my favorite foods, and I never thought to pair it like this. I felt so inspired to make Mediterranean breakfasts all summer long.

Since I had some feta, I opted for a ginger tea to go. It was so delicious and the perfect opportunity to get my hands on one of their precious to go cups. My honey had to get another latte, not only because he loved it, but because we had a full day of shopping in the neighborhood ahead of us.
