After a long night of bar hopping in the East Village, I was in need of some serious hair of the dog to nurse my hangover. Lucky for me, KTCHN Restaurant had invited us in for The Haus of Mimosa Boozy Brunch show. I met Business Bitch Nikkia in Hell’s Kitchen, and off we went! The Haus of Mimosa is a comedic drag show, made up of queens Anita M. Buffem and Gina Marie Rittale. The ladies provide the entertainment for the afternoon, with comedic sketches and musical numbers, while you sit back and booze it up!


We arrived just in time to be seated for the start of the show. Our waiter then informed us that KTCHN offers a $35 bottomless brunch deal – a limited selection of items from the brunch menu, as well as unlimited mimosas or sangria. IMG_4618

These Bitches couldn’t pass up unlimited brunch cocktails, so we decided to go with this option. Both of us started with the mimosas. Being a Bloody Mary connoisseur, I usually find mimosas to only be so-so. Don’t get me wrong – I love my bubbly, but they typically just don’t do anything for me. These mimosas, however, may have changed my opinion. After my first sip, I commented to Nikkia how refreshing they were, and how the orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. They weren’t overly sweet, and they weren’t too fizzy. Honestly, I think they were some of the best mimosas I’ve ever tasted. KTCHN earned brownie points for leaving a full carafe at the table; I love when restaurants do this, as it allows you to drink at your own pace without being totally reliant on your server.


For our main courses, we decided to mix a little sweet with savory. I ordered the Challah French Toast, topped with freshly cut strawberries, bananas, and toasted coconut, and served with warm maple syrup. I love Challah bread in general, so whenever it incorporated on a brunch menu, it’s usually my go-to order. I’m happy to say I wasn’t disappointed. The french was delicious and sweet and paired nicely with the fresh fruit. I also ordered some chicken apple sausage on the side. To me, brunch isn’t truly brunch if bacon or sausage aren’t involved. The sausage was perfectly cooked; crispy on the outside, but really juicy and flavorful once you took a bite. I couldn’t stop eating it! IMG_4606

Nikkia went with a more savory brunch option, and ordered the American Breakfast. This consisted of two eggs any style (she went with scrambled + cheese), your choice of meat, breakfast potatoes, and your choice of toast. The eggs were cooked to perfection — both creamy and savory. The breakfast potatoes were one of Nikkia’s brunch favorites, well-seasoned and crisp. Those savory potatoes also helped with the plethora of bottomless mimosas that were continuously poured throughout the well-entertaining show. Nikkia also went for the chicken apple sausage and her sentiments were that of mine: absolute perfection.

While we waited for our food to arrive, we were able to sip our cocktails and revel in the comedic geniuses that are The Haus of Mimosa. The ladies were absolutely hysterical! They started with a sketch, and peppered some musical numbers throughout their routine. I liked that they took breaks and walked around the dining room to mingle with patrons. This gave Nikkia and I some time to catch up, and also gave us a chance to get to chat with the ladies. My favorite part of the show was the Kamikaze Lip Sync. Anita and Gina Marie picked three brunch diners at random to come up to the center of the dining area and lip sync to a song chosen by the DJ; whoever was deemed the winner won a free drink! It was a great way to get diners involved in the show, and it gave everyone a laugh.

The only thing that disappointed me about brunch at KTCHN was they didn’t really seem to venture away from your typical brunch options. I wish they had a few more signature items on their menu that would really help them stand out from the competition. Aside from this, we would definitely recommend this brunch for larger groups looking to have a good time. The crowd can get a bit lively thanks to The Haus of Mimosa, and the space is quite large, especially by New York City standards.

The Bitches Say: B. The Haus of Mimosa was hilarious and engaging, the food was delicious, and the mimosas were perfect. If KTCHN had a few more innovative brunch offerings on their menu, it would have bumped them up to an A.
