Another day, another pink cupcakery for yours truly. Rather than let the Washingtonian’s Cupcake Cup decide, I continue on my mission to determine the best cupcakery in Washington. Hello Cupcake is just south of Dupont Circle at 1361 Connecticut Avenue, NW. Much like Georgetown Cupcake, the decor is modern with minimalist detaling (allowing for focus on the cupcakes) with lots of pink. The teeny bopper in me loves the pink and white chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
In fact, Hello Cupcake cupcake’s decor is so chic it even won a Design Award for Interior Architecture from the North Virginia of the American Institute of Architects. But, on to the important stuff. The cupcakes, served on adorable doilies, were perfectly frosted and looked delicious. They were. Probably some of the best frosting I’ve had in my life (And it wasn’t cold). We had (clockwise from pink) Princess (chocolate with strawberry frosting), Carrot Cake, and Yo Tart! (Lemon).
Hello Cupcake’s flavors are by far the most creative of any cupcakery I’ve encountered in D.C. thus far. (Although, this CNN story on the cupcake craze tells of much odder ones across the nation). Strawberry Lemonade, Bailey’s Irish Cream (most likely a remnant of St. Patrick’s Day), Raspberry Beret, and, Dulce de Leche.
Having spent my childhood in Argentina, I am ecstatic that Dulce de Leche has been incorporated into a cupcake. And look at how yummy they look:
The “Heart of Darkness” also looks divine, I intend to try both on my next visit (which, I hope, will be soon!)
A former Vegan and current Vegetarian/Whole Foods addict, I have always (and always will) avoid processed foods. Hello Cupcake offers Vegan and Gluten free options and strives to use only fresh, natural ingredients free of trans-fats. Which, is enough for me to justify going back for seconds very soon.
The Cupcake 5 Factor:
Pretty? Yes.
Extensive Flavor Selection? Yes.
Moist cake? Yes.
Good Frosting? Yes.
Good Ambiance? Yes.
