I was introduced to South Moon Under ironically by my husband, a Maryland guy who grew up around several store locations, when I moved down to D.C. five years ago. At the time I was in my mid-twenties, still running the musical festival circuit and packing as many outings into a week as humanly possible. I was drawn to the store’s trendy pieces and affordable prices. As I’m now at the ripe age of 30, I find myself perusing the store for different reasons.
First things first, the jean selection at SMU is fantastic. The store turned me on to my first pair of Frame jeans back in March and they honestly feel like butter. This season, I chose two other staple pieces for the unpredictable seasonal swings in weather: comfortable and cute sneakers and a light suede neutral duster. I’ve been living in said Superga sneakers from South Moon Under. The rose gold details are unique, but still neutral enough to pair with everything from a mini skirt to a jumpsuit.
This suede duster is so soft, it feels like a socially acceptable robe. I find that I reach for it on days where I need to run a bunch of errands around the city, or power through work and want to look pulled together, but comfortable. With the erratic weather we’ve been having, it’s also a nice in between season option to get you from colder mornings to sunny afternoons.
While a duster is a chic addition to a simple jeans and tee shirt look, I liked the idea of giving the outfit some dimension by adding high and low hemlines. The mini skirt is offset by the practically floor length duster and flat sneakers, making it an appropriate and casual daytime look.
You can also opt for dusters that can double as a beach cover-up later this summer. Floral, tye-die and sheer fabrics are all sure fire bets to get you from bopping around the city to margaritas by the pool. Shop our favorite dusters and pastel skirts to take you from those awkward spring temperatures to sipping poolside this summer!
