As the brunch experts around town, we have a lot of thoughts on how restaurants can improve their brunch menus and services. But they don’t always ask for our constructive criticism (sorry for being a Bitch?)
Thus, we were honored when District Distilling Co. asked us to help them design a couple new cocktails for its brunch menu. Head bartender Erin Ivey led us through District Distilling’s fleet of locally made spirits to help us brainstorm. Stephanie and I had a blast dreaming up new takes on our favorite brunch cocktails.
First up, sip on the “Sunnyside Spritz.” This cocktail is inspired by our love of Aperol Spritzes, and features Corridor Rye Vodka, Lillet Rose, Aperol, orgeat, lemon, and egg white. It’s slightly sweet, with a velvety texture; like an orange creamsicle with a pop of citrus fruits. The spices add a slight almond kick, and residual herbal and spice notes leave you with a full mouth-feel.
Looking for something with a little more oomph? Enter the “Ya Snooze, Ya Booze.” We’ve all been there. You overslept and are running late to brunch. Rather than drink both a coffee and an alcoholic drink, we’ve combined them to get the best of both worlds.
This cold brew coffee cocktail mixes the C&O Porter whiskey with semi sweet chocolate flavors, finished with a maple foam for a bit of creaminess. With a dry start, it marries a yummy harmony of coffee and chocolate, and finishes with a rich maple aftertaste.
Look for our Bitchy libations on the menu when you swing by District Distilling on U Street. They pair well with anything on the brunch menu (read our review here). Be sure to get the bread plate and the biscuits and gravy.
