We’re pretty sure the heart of Washington’s foodie community broke last month following Chef Geoff Tracy’s announcement that he was moving to New York. Why New York? Well, his wife, Nora O’Donnell, snagged a gig as a host on CBS This Morning.
So, you’re telling us the man can cook and he supports his super successful wife? Sounds like a dream team, no? Tracy, who owns six restaurants in the D.C. Metro area, will be back and forth to check in on his restaurants. We caught up with him for a quick interview on Washington’s food and brunch scene in anticipation of tonight’s March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction, when the area’s top restaurants come together for a tasting event and auction at the Ritz to benefit the March of Dimes.
This is the second year the Bitches have supported March of Dimes—we met Chef Geoff at last year’s auction—and we suggest you get tickets to tonight’s event, if there’s still time!
What is your brunch philosophy?
Bacon is good.
What is your favorite brunch dish to eat?
Pancakes with Huckleberries!
What is your favorite brunch dish to prepare?
Every Christmas I do a big brunch buffet for the family with three highlight being Kielbasa, Smoked Salmon, and a Waffle Making Station.
What do you think of the brunch scene in DC?
Groovy but I only eat brunch at Chef Geoff’s.
What do you drink with brunch?
Lots of coffee. I can’t drink during the day.
What’s next for you?
Hope to start work on restaurant #7.
Why are you involved with the Signature Chefs Auction?
It’s an amazing organization and event. And because I remember what it was like when my little Henry came out big of heart but a tad on the small side. We spent some time in the preemie ward. Others had it much tougher.
